  • BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS VACATION GUIDE...1998
    The Pacific West...Ranch Resorts
..."Just driving to this ranch is worth the trip. The road snakes over and around the Tehachapi Mountains northeast of Bakersfield, then drops to this 30,000-acre cattle spread in a valley that seems as remote as Shangri-La."

    David

  • LOS ANGELES TIMES...1998
"I sat 5 feet off the ground on the back of glistening quarter horse named Cappuccino listening to the wind whistle in my ears and rustle through the surrounding meadow of wildflowers. As far as I could see there was nothing but nature, a small portion of it sowed to fields of grain, but mostly the rough terrain of mountainous cattle country. ...it wasn't hard to understand why, five generations later, the Rankin family is still here. Lucky for the rest of us that they are."

LETTERS FROM RANKIN RANCH GUESTS

Dear Rankins,
We all wanted you to know what a great time we had at your ranch! It was by far our Best family vacation! Everyone there was so friendly and so much fun and went out of their way to accommodate our group. It was the first time we've been on a vacation and all wanted to stay when it was time to leave. Thanks for everything and I know we will see you all again next year.

Sincerely,
Tim and Julie Padgett and Boys

Dear Rankins,
Thanks so much for making the Dawson family reunion a complete success! Gathering the family from New York, Texas and southern California wasn't easy, but well worth it. Thanks!

Renee Dawson

Dear Glenda and Bill,
Back home after a wonderful 1,700 mile tour of California. The Rankin Ranch was definitely the high-light of our trip, only mistake we made, it should have been longer. John has not sat on a horse before - (just likes driving cars!) - you should hear him raving about it all. Certainly a new experience which I cannot wait to repeat. Looking forward to next year.

Bobbie and John Mowatt (England)

Dear Helen, Bill and Glenda,
I had to write to tell you what a wonderful time I had. When I was coming down the hill for my second visit I had such a feeling of coming home. I look forward to next time I visit and can't wait till the time comes again.

As ever,
Carol

Dear Helen, Glenda, Bill and Family,
Just a note to say thank you for the wonderful, relaxing, fun-filled vacation. Also for the nice cake and gift for our anniversary. We really felt like part of the family by the time we left. Dale and I are both looking forward to seeing you in May next year. We are already working on our boys to take their families up some year, maybe when the twins are a couple of years older and calmer. Have a wonderful season and a relaxing winter.

Love,
Dale and Dottie

Rankins,
I have two free airline tickets anywhere in the world that American Airlines flies. When I asked Janell (Jaime's teenage daughter) if she wanted to go to Europe or some other international location, she said, "No, I want to go to Rankin Ranch!" So, I guess that says it all. Your warm hospitality, great horses, wonderful food and nice people won out. Thank you so much. See you all this summer!

Jaime' and Janell Jecker

Dear Glenda,
First of all, I want to tell you how much fun we had at your ranch. Our hopes were really built up from all our anticipation of counting the weeks and finally days until we were going to come to your ranch. We were not let down! All five of us had a wonderful time! Even when the kids were hesitant to join in on things that were new to them (such as your talent show), they quickly found that each experience was lots of fun and they were glad to be a part of each experience. You are such warm, friendly people. I have to tell you that I got tears in my eyes as we drove away when it was time for us to come back home. It was hard to say "goodbye."

Great Birthday PartiesWe want to say "Thanks" for the special birthday celebration you gave Katie, Trever and Amanda. Again, you went beyond what Dan and I had expected. We had talked to you about the surprise birthday cake and were thrilled you would do that for the kids. Then you also gave them the glass boots (which they can keep as a momento forever) filled with goodies and the balloons! THANK YOU!!!

We hope that maybe some of our friends will be able to come and stay with you folks some time. We were so excited and suggested to different people (even when we went to the dentist and the bank!) that you have the ideal "family vacation" spot. Your ranch was what I consider our family's first real vacation. We do hope that maybe someday we can come and see you again! Rankin Ranch is going to be a hard act to follow elsewhere!

You really went "above and beyond" for us and we want to say "Thank You!" We really had a wonderful experience and we will never forget it!!!

Love,
Kathy and Dan Canham and Family

Dear Glenda and Bill,
Just a brief note to thank you for a wonderful and restful "mini" vacation. The atmosphere at Rankin Ranch was so conducive to relaxation and your hospitality was beyond measure. Our accommodations were perfect and the food was plentiful and delicious.

Please convey our thanks especially to Sarah and wranglers, Dave, Scott, Jason and Travis. They were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable and aided in making our weekend so pleasureable. We had a great time, geniunely enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning to Rankin Ranch in the future.

Most sincerely,
Kevin F. Priestley, D.C.

*A recorded message from a 1995 guest*
Hello, Ruth Felmus speaking. How are you all? I had the whole family in Palm Springs over the Christmas vacation. We had a wonderful time, but we decided of all our vacations in '95 the ranch was the best by far!

I spoke with Ruth later that day and she said they had been to Club Med, Palm Springs and Rankin Ranch in 1995 and they all agreed Rankin Ranch was their favorite...and she was calling to reserve for 1996 that day. Since then, she and her family have visited us during the summers of 1997 and 1998 and spring of 1999. They will join us again in 2002.

Dear Helen, Bill and Glenda,
Now that we have very reluctantly returned to our daily routines, we wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed Rankin Ranch. Miles said it well, "You never get bored at Rankin Ranch. There is always something to do - horseback riding, fishing, swimming..." It was the first chance I had to really relax in a long time. I also, thanks to David, got back on a horse after a 20 year hiatuss!

We have told all our friends about your hospitality and excellent food. We look forward to coming back next year. See you all in '96.

Cordially,
Denise Nelson Nash

Dear Glenda,
Everyone at Rankin Ranch was positively wonderful to us! Scotty and John have told everyone that we're all going back again next year. I wish that every child in the world could experience what our grandsons experience at Rankin Ranch. They grew in self-esteem and self-confidence. They both loved horseback riding and swimming beyond words! John said he dreams every night about when he won the cannonball contest.

We all think Sarah's a saint. She has the patience of Job with all those children! You have, truly a wonderful family. You all give so much of yourselves to provide a vacation that lives forever in our hearts. God bless you. We'll see you next year.

Love,
Joe and Peggy Hammer
Scotty and John Lindwall

*When another guest asked Joe if they planned to come again in 1996, grandson John popped up and said he'd give all the money in his piggy bank if they could come back. They returned in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2001.

"I've just never had a better time watching my kids for a week of happiness. Thank you for your kind and caring staff. Airplane tickets alone, to a Montana ranch, were going to cost more than our entire stay at Rankin Ranch."
