Recent months we have all been living through very interesting times with the COVID 19 pandemic. Our family has felt very fortunate to live and work on the ranch in the remote mountains of Kern County. While the work on the cattle ranch has continued, the guest ranch came to a screeching halt. It was a very challenging two months for our family and staff with a very limited number of visitors at the ranch. We have chosen to open the ranch and are accepting guests. Our ranch is our livelihood and has been for six generations of Rankins, we must continue with our operations or this experience that guests have come to love may cease to exist.
We are monitoring the Coronavirus situation closely and taking precautions to ensure that we can provide a safe and enjoyable vacation for you. For 55 years our ranch has offered guests a unique experience to escape the crowds and enjoy our peaceful mountain valley. That has never been more important than it is today. We feel the ranch offers a sanctuary with fresh mountain air, open space, a small group setting, and a team that is committed to the highest levels of cleanliness. As guests, you are part of our ranch family and it is of the utmost importance that “our family” stay safe and healthy.
Below are the additional precautions we are taking.
- Increased frequency of cleaning of high contact surfaces and common areas.
- Encouraging increased hand washing and respect for individual’s personal space.
- Small group setting. Ranch capacity is approximately 50 guests. In the near term, we are limiting the number of guests that stay with us to ensure a small group setting and adequate space to spread out and enjoy the ranch and activities.
- Meals are included in your ranch stay. Each party (couple, family, etc.) will have the option of their own table to allow for adequate personal space.
- We have always taken great pride in having very clean accommodations. We are committed to this now more than ever.
- There are many outdoor activities to enjoy while at the ranch.
- We will take out our guided trail rides as scheduled. We encourage guests to wash their hands before and after trail rides.
- We encourage you to enjoy a hike on the ranch. The mountains are green and it is a beautiful time to be outside.
- The fishing pond has been restocked with Rainbow Trout and is ready for you if you would like to go fishing. You are welcome to catch and release or bring a fish up and clean it and we will cook it for dinner. Please bring your own fishing equipment. There is no need for a fishing license since the pond is on private property.
- The swimming pool is heated and ready for a swim. Or just relax and read a good book.
- We will be operating the children’s activities with regular handwashing for both kids and staff. We will be modifying and eliminating some activities to limit physical contact and encourage siblings to help each other as needed. Parents are welcome to come along with the children’s program. You are also welcome to enjoy ranch activities together as a family if you would prefer that your child not interact with others.
If you are willing to assume the risks that are associated with being in a public setting, we will be happy to have you come visit us. We recognize that everyone’s feelings and circumstances are different with regards to traveling. We are very respectful of this fact and want to be transparent about the experience you can expect, so that you can make the decision that is best for you. We welcome you to contact us with any questions or concerns.
