There are a plethora of birds to see. We aren’t listing all of them because more than 400 species can be found in Kern County. However, there are some excellent online resources that you should utilize before and when you are at Rankin Ranch. Here are some birds you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding.

We have a vast space for you to roam and scour for the best spots for birding. With all of the acres of wilderness to explore, you won’t have a problem finding a spot to hunker down and watch birds. But here are some popular spots for nature viewing on Rankin Ranch.
- Walker’s Basin Creek: A popular spot along Walker’s Basin Creek is “Gossip Rock.” Stroll down the canyon following Walker Basin Creek and be surrounded by nature. Take in the sights and sounds of the meandering stream, frogs croaking, and birds chirping around you. This is a beautiful area all seasons of the year.
- Lake Julia: We regularly stock this small pond with rainbow trout. This area allows you to see ducks and other birds landing on the water.
- Outside Your Cabin: You don’t have to go far to see nature in its glory. You can sit right outside your cabin and see a variety of birds and wildlife. It’s a relaxing way to start the day.
